I watched the movie last night and it made me feel like a teeny bopper.God! I cannot imagine the hordes of teenagers I encountered in the cinema. But I cant say much about them, after all I was worse than them, When Aaron Kwok was in town. *throat went dry*
It was a movie I wanted to watch the moment I knew they were making it. I watched the Anime series, Initial D Stage 1 to 4 till the latest episodes 14. And although there is nothing much except the racing of various fierce cars, I was kept on the edge of my bed ( Yes, I watched the anime series in bed) clutching my bolster, occassionally sitting up in excitement and suddenly proclaimation of "Way to Go Takumi!"
To say the least, I had huge expectation of the movie. After all, it is adapted from my favourite anime series!
I protested when they starred Jay Chou as the Lead Character. I do not like Jay Chou. I originally wanted Edison Chen to be the Lead Character - but he acted as somebody else in the movie *mutters*
The Movie has changed the story plot somewhat. You dont get to see the S13, Relationship between the petrol kiosk owner and one of Takumi's friend (Itsuki) become father and son.. other than that, the story is quite the same.
I find the chemistry between the actors lacking. Or is that due to the dubbing?
I dont find that the relationship between Natsumi and Takimi as sizzling as I did in the anime series. I do not find the racing scenes at all gripping.
Most of the time in the cinema, I was kept entertained by the antics of Wong Chou seng, who acted as Takimi's retired racer father Bunta, Kenny Bee who acted as the petrol kiosk owner and Itsumi ( acted by another Hongkong actor whom I shamelessly admit I do not know his name).
It was good comic relief for me after my very hectic one week.
However, in other aspects, I find that this movie is not very much worth the $9.50 it cost me.
I rather watch the anime series.
