One of those days, probably after the many days of reading from almanacs, encyclopedias, picturepedias etc ... I am feeling philosophical yet again.

And being the nerd I really am these days, I watched discovery channels and found a documentary on Olivia Lum, the brains behind Newater.

I find her interview inspiring, given that she was mostly an orphan, I said mostly because, she was later adopted from by her maternal grandmother, who took good care of her.

her struggle to make it big in life was definitely an uphill task and yet she has managed to attain it, fulfilling her personal oath to her late material grandmother, who was also in many ways her mother, her mentor and firm supporter.

I find it mind boggling that she managed to survive with RM $10 to become what she is today. Perhaps it is because she was living in such adverse environment, it gave her the drive to achieve something out in the end.

A woman, with no close kins, yet determinedly uprooted herself from her hometown to another foreign land and went on to find a niche market not only in Singapore, but in China when no one else dared to venture.

This is what made her so admirable and inspiring... at least in my humble opinion.

Could us Singaporeans do what she did?

How many of us could give up our cushy life to venture outwards, live in harsh conditions with nothing to warm you up, except the dream of being close to achieve what you set forth to do?

Do we possess such drive? Such determination to succeed?

I know, at least for me, I couldn't do it.

Its annoying enough that when I go and select flats, those available are always reserved for the minorities. Which causes me to look to the re-sale market now - whereby the prices are inflated skyhigh. But why is it that when they sell flats on the re-sale market, they do not adhere to the racial groups quota?

do they really?

I find it hard to believe that the quota has been implemented in the re-sale market.
Take for example the block of flat where I live. Those moving out of the apartments are always the Chinese and then those who moved in are always the other races.

While I personally do not mind them moving in, I do mind when they start becoming unreasonable. I have dogs I love dogs. While on most occasions, I keep my dogs locked in. today I had the priviledge of them fetching me from work. I was overloaded with bags of stuff, books, working portfolio etc, I simply had not more strength to carry the dog after a hard day's work.

what I did was just let the dog down and the dog would run to my door step and wait there... as it usually does.. but my very kampung style neighbour had opened its gates and the childrem screamed when the dog ran pass, which resulted in a curious dog retracing its steps to look at what cause the commotion.

I ran up immediately despite feeling very tired, and apologised to the woman (who is not my neighbour, but probably a relation), who in turned shouted at me.

WTF!

If you had closed your gates, the children probably wouldn't have feared the dog. If I had known your bloody door is opened, I wouldn't have let the dog down. I had apologised.. what was the big shoutout about.

then what about those malays who insisted on keeping cats at their home even though it is illegal to do so?

The world has been changing, so much im beginning to think that humans are like machinery, just like the chickens are the machinery for the chicken farm. What they do all day long apart from eating, is popping eggs to feed our egg-hungry countrymen.

In the papers recently, there has been quite a big hooha about the budget the government is setting aside for all fellow men, there's been talk that this budget plans are for the up and coming elections, something to sweeten our senses before we draw a huge cross on the vote for the government in your constituency.

Then there's also plans to engage policemen to be part-time nanny of the future of our nation - young children. I mean excuse me.. you mean not only teachers are nanny of these children, the police too? because of a lack in the number of crimes cases in the puritan state of good ol' Sg?

What have the parents been doing?
Do they know what is called responsibilities? I have seen young parents carrying one babe in one arm and holding on to another with their other hand. And the hands of these young children are more younger children in tow.

Have they ever stopped to think what happen to these children if they do not fulfill their responsibilities as parents? Do they just allow them free rein over everything? no wonder the number of underaged pregnancies are on the rise again, with these parents not doing anything or only create more trouble when the crisis arise.

Theyare behaving just like the chickens in the coop, popping out the babies after 3 trimester and not caring and nurturing them as they should. But the thing about chickens in the coop is that they do not have the means to take care of their eggs, because the eggs are being consumed by consumers. Now, the parents have the means with baby bonus, paternal leave, maternal leave and what nots but what have they been doing? nothing! It is totally infuriating to know there exist such people!

I do know of people with poor family upbringing, not only do they have bad habits like gambling, smoking and even drug abuse.... they become the social leeches of our society.

are we going to allow these social degradation happen as it is now, by condoning what parents are not doing? bringing up their child to be morally upright and socially responsible beings?

It sure seems that way to me...

Some people said that valentine's day all commercialised and just a big furore over nothing. Some people got flowers (poor men got ripped off by some profit-centered florists) some people got presents, some got homemade cookies and chocolates.

Aerdna got a vintage card, hand-made by her husband 11 years ago.. or was it 15? *grin*

Mummy enjoyed a two night movie date with daddy and a little gift from me which she absolutely loved!

Mrs brown got a vintage looking soviet et titus watch from mr. brown

But arent you glad when you receive those gifts?

And i had a simple dinner with deserts with my very sorry bf.
Because i nagged at him for making me wait 30 mins inspite of my hectic schedule to churn out two assignments by the 15th.

I felt bad for the experience, but we wil have a made-up v-day celeb this friday.. so till then...

祝大家:
万事如意, 心想事成, 步步高升, 生体健康, 甜甜密密, 笑口常开!

Its been a really hectic few days of new year.
coupled by the fact that I have had to play host to my grandparents and my uncle's family for the reunion dinner + potluck thingie on the first day of CNY, and lastly playing host again to my extended paternal family on the second day of CNY.

i'm really bushed!

and yesterday I had to bring my bf to the hospital because he sprained his ankle on the eve of CNY, because I asked him to mop the floor - so poor thing right?

I havent yet 拜年 with his mommy, because, she wasn't around the entire cny period cos she was overseas. So dunno when is a good day to go and 拜年.

Angbao harvest dropped drastically this year, a signal telling me that im too old to be collecting anymore red packets. But that shall not deter me from staying unmarried at least for the time being.

did not managed to take any photos even though I badly wanted a snapshot of the family. sigh.. shall not venture to talk about it... depressing ah.

the only picture i had was of the 年初二 lunch spread.

Please drool, yours truly had a hand in preparing these dishes...
